Yeah, we’re “blow-ins” from Sydney🙄 but we didn’t move to the southern Highlands to play “country”! We moved to the southern Highlands to run a business, a business in which we have already had a behind the scenes role in, for more than 20 years...😳...yeah!
The Belshaw (our family) foundry was renowned for being one the best non-ferrous foundry’s in Sydney, producing what other foundry’s either couldn’t or wouldn’t. Three generations of skills, knowledge and experience kept the foundry operational for just over 70 years.
We have manufactured parts for numerous engineering and electrical companies that sent our castings worldwide. You’ve probably seen or come into contact with a number of the parts made in our foundry and wouldn’t even think about its origins.
As well as major contracts we had a smaller clientele which came from far and wide, even the southern Highlands. These “characters” sure did challenge us with all sorts of interesting parts to cast!😁 The clientele list included the humble Nameplates business in the highlands aka Berrima Stables and Gifts. Our foundry produced the Nameplates for Hugh and Patricia’s shop in Berrima exclusively.
Before working in the family foundry for 10 years I was running large format printing machines for one of Sydney’s top sign shops. During my time there I acquired the necessary qualifications in signwriting. Little did I know at the time just how valuable these skills would be in my present life.
I was quickly thrust into the spotlight when Hugh passed, taking full control of nameplate production for Patricia. We bought the business before she sadly passed away in 2017.
Now working out of a smaller, rebuilt foundry I continue to produce the Nameplates right here in ‘The Southern Highlands’ of NSW, Australia.
